Literally hundreds of books and thousands of articles have been written on the Trial of Jesus. There is a numbing sameness to all: Was he guilty or not? Was it a fair trial or not. This lecture will discuss two distinct topics: What is the significance of the Trial, arguably the most consequential in the history of the West, on our concept of Justice? And theologically what is the significance of God choosing to bring about the death of His Son, to redeem humanity, through the instrumentality of a Trial. These two rather basic questions have hardly been dealt with, if at all, in the last 2000 years.
We welcome Prof. Joseph H. H. Weiler, University Professor at NYU Law, School & Senior Fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard
