Join us for a conversation with Ms. Nhung Hurst, General Counsel of Bethany Christian Services, as she shares her experiences from 20+ years of serving the most vulnerable through her work in the non-profit sector. Ms. Nhung will discuss, in particular, her experiences at Bethany Christian Services and Samaritan’s Purse, where she has been at the forefront of demonstrating Christian compassion, while navigating government affairs and compliance in the most pressing of circumstances. Lunch will be provided. Event open to the Harvard community - no registration is required.

Short profile of Ms. Nhung Hurst:

Ms. Nhung Hurst is an executive leader with 20+ years of working in the non-profit sector with both domestic and international organizations. Her experience of coming to the US as a refugee in the late 1970s fuels her passion for serving the most vulnerable. Ms. Hurst has worked in various leadership roles, including Operations, Compliance, Human Resources, Leadership Development, Data Privacy,  Legal Services, and Government Affairs, which allows her to provide strategic and practical advice.

During her eight years serving with Samaritan’s Purse, she worked extensively with humanitarian and disaster relief staff in Southeast Asia, Latin America, Caribbean, Middle East, and Africa to provide legal advice and compliance guidance in the areas of foreign/local registration, employment and labor law, privacy and data protection, child protection, bribery and corruption regulations, and anti-trafficking initiatives.

Ms. Hurst obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English from Rhodes College, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Memphis Law school and is licensed in Michigan and North Carolina. In addition, she holds certifications as a Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR).

Currently, Ms. Hurst serves as General Counsel for Bethany Christian Services in Grand Rapids, Michigan and oversees legal, risk management, and government affairs. Bethany Christian Services partners with federal and state agencies to provide family preservation services, foster care and adoption services and care to refugees and immigrant youth.
