Daniel Fellowship

Daniel

About

The Harvard Daniel Fellowship is a flagship initiative of the Harvard Program on Biblical Law and Christian Legal Studies. It offers an unparalleled opportunity to join a dynamic and diverse group of Harvard students who desire to grow in biblical knowledge, gain practical wisdom, and deepen their commitment to serve this generation with God’s transformational love and grace. Named after Daniel in the Old Testament, the Daniel Fellowship is an up to two-year fellowship appointment made available to select Harvard students whose skills, talents, and singular dedication to God distinguish them in their generation, and who are committed to being set apart and trained for a life of faithful leadership with spiritual and intellectual excellence in the profession and industry to which they are called. The fellowship fosters a community where “iron sharpens iron” – providing settings where honest conversations produce humble courage and graceful engagement with old, new, and emerging ideas, whether from the classroom or beyond. Daniel Fellows are characterized by a deep abiding faith in God, courage, faithfulness, and a vision for serving their community.

Application Process

Students are generally nominated by peers or faculty to apply for a Daniel Fellowship. Following nomination, candidates may be invited to participate in interviews with Program staff, faculty, and alumni to explore their candidacy for the Fellowship.

While nominations are strongly preferred, the Program will also consider students who express interest independently on a case-by-case basis. Interested students should email the Program with their name, field of study, expected graduation year, and a brief paragraph describing why they area strong candidate and why they are drawn to the Fellowship. Daniel Fellows are expected to demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership potential, and integrity, guided by biblical wisdom.

Reading Groups

Groups

The Program’s reading groups offer students a space to engage deeply with critical areas of Christian formation. Discussions focus on worship—how our hearts are shaped; community—how our life together is formed; and world—how our sense of vocation and service is cultivated. Participants wrestle with how God’s grace transforms these dimensions of life through a variety of Christian perspectives.

Books and topics vary each year, and discussions are guided by the Program’s Theologian-in-Residence, Faculty or Visiting Scholars. These reading groups provide an opportunity for reflection, dialogue, and spiritual growth within a vibrant scholarly community.

Harvard PraysTM

Prayer

Morning Prayer

A weekly gathering for Harvard students, faculty, staff, and scholars to pause, pray, and fellowship together. Participants share in breaking bread, offering thanks, and interceding for the Harvard community, the nation, and the world. Scripture in Community

Lectio

1 Tim. 4:13

A weekly practice of reading and listening to the Bible together, encouraging participants to ask questions, reflect deeply, and engage in thoughtful discussion. Scripture in Community meets each week at four Harvard locations: Harvard College, Harvard Law School, Harvard Divinity School, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, fostering connection, insight, and shared exploration across the University.

Christianity & The Common Good

CCG

Overview

CCG’s research, teaching, and scholarly engagement activities aim to produce fresh analysis and critical debate on the role and impact of Christianity on the governance, social, and technological problems of our time.

William J. Stuntz Legacy Project

WJSLP

Continuing a Legacy of Justice and Faith

The William J. Stuntz Legacy Project is an undertaking dedicated to honoring the life and work of the late Professor William J. Stuntz (1958-2011), a distinguished and profoundly influential Harvard Law School academic whose scholarship united rigorous legal analysis with a Christian vision of justice, compassion, and mercy. The WSLP was founded by a group of colleagues, friends, and admirers of Professor Stuntz with the view of establishing a comprehensive online repository of his works – both published and unpublished. Explore the WSLP’s rich collection of Professor Stuntz’s books, articles, blog posts, and other materials critiquing the injustices within the American criminal justice system, while advocating for a system mirroring Christian ideals of fairness, dignity, and care for the vulnerable.
